Lolita 52 Challenge: Trends I Love and Hate

Hey everyone! Today I'll be talking about two Lolita 52 challenge topics at once: Trends I thought I would never get into, but I now love and trends I thought I loved, but now I'm not too keen on.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't really followed a lot of trends in Lolita as I generally to avoid spending too much time in online groups due to drama. Because of this, I'm combining both of these topics together so they're longer than one sentence each...

So for a trend I never thought I would get into but I now love, I have to say prints. While I'm still not a huge fan of prints and miss the simplicity and elegance of dresses relying on details in design rather than a different print on the same basic dress, I definitely appreciate and wear prints a lot more than when I first got into Lolita. I used to absolutely loathe the whole idea of prints, but secretly I've kinda always liked them, as evidenced by my first brand made dream dress being Angelic Pretty's Jewelry Jelly. As for a trend I used to love but now hate, the only thing that really comes to mind is super chunky or blocky shoes. I'm not saying rocking horse shoes or shoes with thick heels, I'm talking Demonia platform boots or shoes with platforms that are bulkier than the shoe itself combined with Lolita. I used to love this look in my ita days as I didn't know better and since it was more "in" back then, but now I feel it just looks ridiculous having super bulky shoes with an elegant outfit.

Are there any trends you used to like that you now hate or vice versa? Lolita or otherwise, let me know in the comments below!

3 Lolita Trends I Never Got Into

Hello everyone! Going off of the last Lolita 52 Challenge topic I did, I decided to do a flip-side post: 3 Lolita trends I never got into.

#1: Animal ears
Back when I got into Lolita, animal ears were highly discouraged because of their costume-like nature and the struggle to differentiate Lolita from cosplay. The style of Lolita has changed a lot over the years and doesn't resemble the style typically portrayed in anime now, so animal ears are more widely accepted in the style. While quality of animal ear based head accessories has improved a LOT over the years, I just never really got into the look.

#2: Gigantic collars
A few months back I got a new blouse from Bodyline that has a HUGE collar that almost extends past my shoulders. I very quickly realized that it looked terrible on me as I have a somewhat large frame to begin with, so I took the outer part of the collar off and made it smaller to suit me better. I'm not entirely sure if this would suit most people, so I'm glad it's not a very prominent trend.

#3: Chocolate prints
So, little known fact, I don't enjoy the flavor of chocolate, even in small quantities like with red velvet cake or candies. And because of this fact, I've had people telling me my whole life things like 'something's wrong with you,' 'are you even American?' and 'that's just weird!' (Another little known fact, we're about as common as left-handed people: About 10% of the population.) Because of jerks like this, I now have a deep set loathing for chocolate in all forms that aren't of the Reeces holiday variety (it doesn't even taste like chocolate). So, because of this, I never really got on the chocolate everything Lolita bandwagon. I truly try to appreciate the prints, but I just don't care for them all that much.

Three Lolita Trends I Could Never Get Into

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to be using an older Lolita Blog Carnival topic: Three Lolita trends I could never get into. I originally read this on F Yeah Lolita' blog (Links to other blogs are on there too). So without further ado...

#1: Bonnets
I've never been much of a fan of bonnets in general and Lolita is not much different for me. While they can look cute in certain coords, I just really don't like the shape. I much prefer the head eating bows and rectangle headresses. Granted, I'm not much of a hat person in general, so I might be slightly biased...

#2: Scepters
While they can look cute and are certainly a fun decoration, I've never really gotten into scepters. Despite being Brand in a lot of cases, they look kinda like something you'd pick up at a party store for a little kid's costume to me. I can kinda see using them in a very OTT Hime Coord, I don't really like how they look in most Lolita coords as they come across as costume-y to me.

#3: Chocolate Prints
While most people absolutely adore chocolate, I am cursed with tastebuds that do not like chocolate. So in a way, chocolate prints are a bit of a smack in the face for me of deliciousness I can never enjoy. I can see why they're considered cute by many, but I personally just don't much care for the browns and tans (like with chocolate cookie prints) that are frequent in these styles.

So there you have it! Three Lolita trends I'm just not that in to.
